Constant note on

Post by bigboi78 » Sat Nov 11, 2006 9:17 pm

I am using my LP with a USB Uno MIDI interface and a pro tools setup with 002. when i create an instrument track in pro tools and route the LP to play on this track, i have no problems at first but after a while there will be a constant note being played by the LP, not by me. i can change the LFO rate and the note follows the changes. when i press a key on the LP the midi sign comes up in the lcd and i can hear the note being played with the continuos other note.

this has happened on a regular basis lately. i have just been shutting down the lp then turning it back on. any help would be greatly appreciated!

The LP is not duophonic so a varying note and constant note at the same time can not exist at the output (unless there is some digital noise entering the mix).

I have also identified MIDI stuck note problems. They can be
worked around by sending "All Notes Off" which is not really a workaround.
I contacted Moog about the problem - perhaps you should do the same.

It may... I will give you an example and tell me if this sounds familiar...

- you choose a track to record the midi data of your moog and you record it.
- you play back your moog and everything sounds fine
- you then select a virtual instrument and record the data of this instrument

at this time you notice something wrong... and when you play back both of these parts you hear more moog madness playing? kinda like stuck notes etc?

but when you play the moog by hand by itself all is good? if so, what you are encountering is a "Local Off" bug. I spoke to Moog and they are now aware of the bug.

currently, there is no way around it untill they upgrade their OS.

Would this scenario fall into the same series of bugs? I use Ableton Live 6 to sequence my Phatty. When I play back the recorded sequence, sometimes it plays up an octave from the original. Also, the sequence may alter the patch slightly on playback. I noticed this because the "panel active" comes up and the blue light turns to pink.

fontane,

my situation is more like this:

i have recorded a drum loop and music in pro tools i am playing the little phatty through an "instrument" track (will record MIDI when i am ready to record not audio). bascially just auditioning sounds and trying to come up with something from the LP, not recording. eventually the sound coming from the LP will begin to change slightly and then ultimately get stuck. i can change patches and it does not matter, still stuck. hope that clarifies it. thanks for your help!

Ok, I understand now. Obviously it's MIDI stuck notes. Not sure about a way around this just yet. Do you get stuck notes when you have no MIDI cables going back into the Phatty?

Hmmm... I don't think this has anything to do with the "Local Off" bug I mentioned but it sounds like the Phatty is recieving a cc message from ableton. Possibly a system wide message? I'm not sure. Can you try turning off CC changes? or filtering CC in Ableton's preferences? I bet that would fix the problem.

geoscience: The "playing back at the wrong octave" situation sounds like a bug that may have already been fixed in a currently-available OS. May I ask what OS version you are using? It is displayed when you start up the LP and can also be seen in the Master menu, System Utilities page. Please email me at amos [at] moogmusic [dot] com and I can send you the latest available OS.

Cheers,

Amos

PS) Rachel, please also send me an email (again) if you would be so kind. :)

Also, bigboi/others there is a slightly-faster way to clear stuck notes: press Master and scroll one click to the left, if I recall correctly; the LP has its own internal "all notes off" command which should reset it nicely.
