voyager sounds - moognase

hello,

i made some new songs with my voyager which you can listen to for free at

some of them are peaceful and funny, others are spacey and minimal.

no touchscreens were harmed in the making of these songs.

Very nice martin! I dig your productions. I take it though when you say these songs were made with your voyager you're not meaning exclusively as layering tracks with that one instrument?

Either way these are nice. Thanks for sharing.

it's all pure voyager, one track layered on top of another.
(except the reverb and delay effects which are non-moog effects).
nothing else added.

pretty sweet. takes time layering with one instrument. I know I get impatient, wish I had like 7 more voyagers :lol: and they're giving us reasons now too with all these 'select' series editions. gotta collect'em all!

you are right, it takes patience for all the layering - patience, simplicity, effort, and fun.

i guess these songs reflect what a voyager sounds like straight out of the box, using basic sequencing and playing technique.

the voyager allows you to go way beyond these examples though. there's much much more up its sleeve.

for example, the touchscreen reacts to fruit, for example you can take a small banana and rock it back and forth, as a modulation device.

Most songs are bit more mellow than I usually like, but they are still very nice to listen to!

Great stuff...just like the last batch you posted.

Just out of curiosity are you using your own patches or are you using presets (or both)? Also what are you sequencing with?

thanks for listening!

all patches are my own work, i immediately ditched all the original patches.
i only ever use sounds grouped as follows:

sine blip sounds
deep drones
bass sounds
pulse blip
noise/noise snare
bass drum
classic ufo effects etc.

the orchestration ranges from a trio to a kind of medium-sized orchestra using three or all of the above groups.

i kind of take care to choose the number of oscillators according to the feeling i want to achieve.

0 oscillators - noise, ufos, zaps, ray guns, bird sounds, zaps etc

1 oscillator - bouncy, light, fluffy, blippy, buzzy

2 oscillators - phasing, sync, vocaloid, nasal

3 oscillators - drones, bass, fat, sweeps, 'big' sounds

all the sequencing was done on a yamaha qy70 synced with a korg multitracker, and pulsating blips were done by triggering a note using the old 'rogue' trick.

but theory aside, it was lots of fun recording these pieces, and i am really happy you enjoyed it!

But what is the old "Rogue" trick?

the rogue trick is emulating the 'trig' thing you could do with the moog rogue.

if i remember correctly, it was described elsewhere as the "mandolin effect". (but only when triggered fast.)

the rogue has a switch that repeats a single note infinitely. this can be used to either make a pulsating blip or bass, or it can be used to make a drone.

the voyager can emulate this trick by triggering a continuous blip.

blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip blip ...

I'm still not quite with you, Martin - how do you trigger a continuous blip on the Voyager?

the continuous blip thing can be done by switching oscillator 3 to LO and modulating another oscillator. it's a good idea to use a saw wave on the modulated oscillator so you can get a short tone for the blip. you can play around with the wave forms to soften or harden the attack.

then, switch the oscillator 3 keyboard control to OFF. this way, the speed of the blips is constant over the whole range of the keyboard.
if you switch the oscillator keyboard control to ON, you'll get fast blips in the higher ptches and slower blips in the lower pitches.
